Police today said that missing 14-year-old John Muir student Talya Thompson has been in communication with her parents and is believed to be unharmed, but her location remains unknown and detectives are still hard at work searching for her.

Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra said police believe the girl is with friends.

“She’s still a missing 14-year-old. She still needs to return home,” Ibarra said. “She is communicating via a social media platform to the parents, so we believe she is fine. She has just expressed a desire to not come home.”

Authorities said Thompson simply walked away from the John Muir High School campus at 1905 N. Lincoln Avenue last Friday, May 15 around 11 a.m. Her whereabouts since are unknown.

The teen has run away from home before, authorities said, and the parents waited until the following Sunday to report her missing. She usually returns with a day or two, police explained.

Authorities describe her standing 5′ 6″ and weighing about 170 pounds. She has medium complexion, brown hair, brown eyes. Media reports indicate she was last seen wearing a blue-and-orange hooded sweatshirt, black pants and leopard print shoes.

If you have information that can assist in helping safely locate Talya Thompson, please call 911 or contact the Pasadena Police Department with any information at (626) 744-4241.
