The Los Angeles College of Music collaborated with the NAMM Foundation at last week’s NAMM Show in Anaheim to present renowned musician, DJ and composer Moby as the NAMM Foundation’s keynote speaker, kicking off the 2015 NAMM Show Generation Next Sessions. Moby is an industry mentor at the Los Angeles College of Music, where he has collaborated to inspire the next generation of musicians. He recently announced a new LACM scholarship in his name to be awarded annually to a new student showing extraordinary promise in the areas of general musicianship, songwriting and music production. http://www.lacm.edu/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Moby-Independent-Artist-and-Producer-Scholarship.pdf. Because of his efforts at LACM and continuing to be a mentor to musicians across the globe, NAMM gave Moby its prestigious “Music for Life” Award this year at a ceremony on Thursday, January 22nd.

NAMM’s “Music for Life” award recognizes individuals and organizations that demonstrate support for and exemplify NAMM’s vision that the joy of making music is a precious element of daily living for everyone. Past recipients have included Stevie Wonder, Yoko Ono, Quincy Jones and Smokey Robinson, as well as members of Congress, governors, business leaders, the Smithsonian, and Sesame Workshop.
