April Aldana, Founder/CEO of Voyage Beauty, teaches entrepreneurship and the importance of education to Monet Cares leadership conference participants.

This past Thursday and Friday, the Monet Cares organization presented “The Makings of a Leader” Youth Leadership Conference at Alkebulan Cultural Center in Pasadena.

The conference was full of empowering workshops dealing with topics to help youth develop their leadership skills and understand how to be an effective leader in their schools, communities, health, finances and more. Captivating speakers motivated participants and engaged them in interactive activities highlighting the importance of community service—the youth volunteered at the community food giveaway at Alkebulan.

Among others, speakers included recent college graduates Taylor Holeman (Villanova University grad, Basketball Team Captain) and Angela Aguirre (Cal State L. A. grad and published author of recently released book, “Confessions Of A Firework”).  Young adult presenters spoke to financial matters as Pasadena resident April Aldana, a young entrepreneur and plus size model for Forever 21, and Mico Almeda from Wells Fargo Pasadena gave important tips on entrepreneurship and finances, respectively.  Daniel Shorter (Life-Leadership and Business Coach) taught the participants the importance of mentorship.

Government presenters included L. A. County Commissioner Jules Bagneris, Erika Redke from the Pasadena Public Health Department, Pasadena City Attorney/City Prosecutor Michele Beal Bagneris, and Pasadena City Councilman Tyron Hampton.

Healthy meals were provided from California Pizza Kitchen and Stone Fire Grill and associates from the Kohl’s Cares program volunteered as assistants throughout the conference.  Singer songwriter and Founder of Monet Cares, Monet Bagneris, served as the coordinator and encouraged the participants to take the skills they gained and apply them as they return to school and their community. The participants were excited and motivated to get more involved in their schools and also understood the importance of taking care of their health and finances
