For all the pre-game excitement of Homecoming Night as the Lancers unveiled brand new gray camouflage jerseys, the Pasadena City College football team couldn’t contain visiting Moorpark College’s running game and couldn’t take care of the ball offensively. PCC made five turnovers, four which led to Moorpark scores in a 36-15, SCFA National Northern Conference loss at Robinson Stadium Saturday evening.

The Lancers dropped to 1-6 overall and remain winless in conference at 0-3. The Raiders, who controlled the ball offensively for more than 40 minutes, improved to 2-5 and 1-2. Moorpark played on just four days rest following a 41-31 loss to LA Pierce Monday night.

Moorpark netted 262 rushing yards in 62 carries, led by Maxx Lunn with 136 yards in 30 attempts. Lunn’s 24-yard TD run gave Moorpark a 7-0 lead with 5:04 left in the first quarter. Victor Fermin then made his state-leading sixth interception, picking off a Justin Posthuma pass. That led to a 1-yard TD run by Justin Roberson that made it 14-0.

The Lancers would battle back from a 17-0 deficit, beginning with a 26-yard field goal by kicker Martin Magana just before halftime. Just 2:28 into the third quarter, reserve quarterback Zeek Julien called an option and raced 49 yards for a Lancers touchdown. Magana’s extra point kick was blocked.

Linebacker Steven Williams’ second fumble recovery of the game helped set up the next score, a 16-yard TD pass from Julien to running back Cameron Washington. Marciss Grigsby was stopped on the two-point conversion attempt, but PCC trailed just 17-15 with 5:46 left in the period.

Moorpark answered with three straight touchdowns, two in the third quarter. PCC twice fumbled setting up the Raiders’ scores. Moorpark quarterback Max Leffler threw a pair of TD passes and ran for another.

For PCC, Trayvon Watson made a 42-yard interception return. Lineman Dalyou Pierson totaled a game-high 11 tackles. Zach Sinclair totaled 80 yards in three kick returns. Punter Manny Meza booted a season-best 64-yard punt.

Next Saturday, October 27, the Lancers close their home schedule with a 4 p.m. late afternoon kickoff against visiting Allan Hancock College.
