NBC4 / KNBC, Telemundo 52 Los Angeles / KVEA and the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation awarded five local nonprofit organizations $225,000 under its Project Innovation program. The winning organizations were selected by the local news stations to fund programs that are addressing local community issues throughout Southern California among four grant categories in storytelling, culture of inclusion, youth education and community engagement. Project Innovation is in its second year to award grants to nonprofits, bolstering the total to $450,000 to strengthen local communities. The grant challenge kicked off in January and opened to all eligible nonprofit organizations to compete for the funding.
“This year’s recipients are taking on the important issues facing our community,” said Steve Carlston, President and General Manager of NBC4. “Through the Project Innovation grant, the groups will be better positioned to expand many crucial services.”
“We are pleased that our grant program is creating a local impact by providing funding opportunities to nonprofits who serve our communities with needed resources and programs,” said Celia Chavez, President and General Manager, Telemundo 52 Los Angeles. “We look forward to seeing the impact of the 2019 grantees for years to come.”
