Newly elected South Pasadena Mayor Marina Khubesrian will deliver an inaugural address at the South Pasadena City Council meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 19, followed by a community reception in the South Pasadena City Hall outdoor courtyard.

The inaugural address, which will outline Mayor Khubesrian’s themes and priorities for 2019, will be the focus of a relatively short meeting agenda. The reception will immediately follow the Council meeting, and the public is invited to attend.

The South Pasadena Council will also consider the Mayor’s recommended appointments to various City commissions. The list of potential commission appointments includes many women, following Khubesrian’s call for increased diversity on South Pasadena’s advisory groups.

The South Pasadena Council will also consider several administrative changes to the City’s Public Works Department, including the creation of a deputy public works director for water and sustainability.

The new deputy position would focus on overseeing South Pasadena’s water utility and managing “green” projects, while a second deputy position would handle traditional public works functions such as street repairs and traffic signal operations.

“The water industry and environmental technologies are very complex and rapidly evolving,” said South Pasadena City Manager Stephanie DeWolfe. “South Pasadena would be well served with an expert in the field who can help us manage our current resources and implement new, sustainable initiatives.”

The South Pasadena City Council meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19 in the Council Chambers, 1424 Mission St., South Pasadena. Please visit the City’s web site to view the full agenda and staff reports.
