New Year’s Eve and Rose Parade Arrests Up Slightly, to 9 — Still Far Less Than Earlier Years

Pasadena police arrested nine people along the Rose Parade route on New Year’s Eve and during the Parade itself, Pasadena Police Lt. Kelly Evans said this morning.

Evans said the majority of arrests was for public intoxication — seven — but additionally one was for felony battery and one for felony DUI.

Police said Yuki Horne, 40, of Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving.

The DUI arrest resulted from a car-versus-jogger collision near the intersection of East Colorado Boulevard and North Sierra Madre Boulevard reported at 6:11 a.m. Police said an elderly woman was struck by a vehicle and sustained serious trauma injuries.

Her condition is unknown, said Lt. John Luna.

Arrests so far at the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl are up slightly over the seven people detained last year, when a group of protestors were accused of attempting to interfere with the Rose Parade.

In earlier parades, arrests were substantially higher.

In 2014, a total of 33 people, including a juvenile, were arrested in a number of protests, including one organized by a woman who opposed gay marriage and a second protesting the SeaWorld-sponsored float by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

In 2013, a total of 40 people were arrested at the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl game. According to Pasadena police, all but two were arrested for being drunk in public.
