New Year’s in the Neighborhood

The Proper offers a pair of offerings for the night before the year

The neighbors all know the place. Now it’s your turn. The Flintridge Proper, La Cañada/Flintridge’s favorite local hang, will be breaking out the bubbly this New Year’s Eve with two special dinners.

Flintridge Proper meals always feature the best in seasonal ingredients, served with a fresh, farm-to-table approach. Chef Kevin NaPier, a graduate of California School of Culinary Arts and an alumnus of Patina Group, is a devoted advocate of local sourcing and making his own ingredients. The delicious result is a restaurant with a true neighborhood feel, and now, an opportunity to experience a fabulous New Year’s Eve close to home.

There will be two New Year’s Eve seatings. The early seating, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., will offer a four-course dinner with plenty of time to make that special set later in the evening. Feast at the Proper, stroll home, catch a power nap, and be ready to slip in to that tux or gown.

Three main course options will be offered: butter-poached Loch Duart Salmon, pan-roasted Jidori Chicken Breast, and Grilled Petite Tender.

A second seating, from 8:30-9:30 p.m., will offer a more extensive six-course meal, plus unlimited bubbly, a Flintridge Gin Cocktail for a New Year’s toast, party favors and you, and your friends. The second seating menu will feature such epicurean dishes as an American Caviar Salad, Colorado Lamb Tartare, along with Chukar Partridge, featuring carrot kraut, butter braised turnip, orange-carrot puree, avocado honey, and caraway jus. You’re on your own with the pear tree.

Desert will mean deciding between the coffee bean cake with chocolate ice cream, espresso brittle and Kahlua whipped cream and the market berries with honey custard and champagne. You’re on your own with that one.
