An intergenerational cast of 50 singers, dancers and actors will bring to life “Newsies The Musical” at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 24 through Saturday, July 27. All four performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and take place in the church’s Great Hall. Admission is free and open to all.
Based on the 1992 film, the musical’s story is inspired by a New York City newsboy strike in 1899. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and book by Harvey Fierstein, the show premiered in 2011 and went to Broadway the following year.
This is the 46th annual summer musical performed at First United Methodist Church. The volunteer cast – age 7 to 70 – is drawn from the church’s members and the community at large. The production if fully staged with live orchestral accompaniment.
Dinner in the Cloister is offered before each performance at 6 p.m. The cost is $13 per person and advance reservations are required (church office: (626) 796-0157).
First United Methodist Church is located at 500 E. Colorado Blvd, in the Playhouse District of Pasadena. Off-street parking is available behind the church and may be accessed from Green Street (a one-way street that runs east; access from Los Robles Avenue).
