Nonprofit Serving Pasadena's Kids Announces Role Models Luncheon, Fundraiser

Aspires West Pasadena (AWP), a nonprofit organization serving the urban children of Pasadena and surrounding areas, will hold its 2019 Role Models for Youth Luncheon and Fundraiser on Saturday, April 6, on the theme “Growing and Developing to Own the Future.

An Aspires West Pasadena announcement said the fundraiser and silent auction will be held at the Brookside Country Club, at 1133 North Rosemont Avenue, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Aspires West Pasadena said the purpose of the event is to generate funds for the group to continue serving the Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley students by providing after-school programs, including personalized classes and tutoring in the subjects of mathematics, language skills and computer fundamentals.

The organization also a variety of special services, such as mentoring, counseling, learning and study strategies, career exploration, parenting, early childhood development, cultural enrichment and youth advocacy, to address the diverse factors of life that can affect academic success, the announcement said.

AWP will also celebrate community supporters and outstanding students of Pasadena and Los Angeles through the event. A special recognition will be given to philanthropist Sandra Evers Manly, author of “Raised Up By Mrs. Manly and Her L’s.”

Manly had donated 100 copies of the book to AWP, which will be on sale until March 31. To purchase books, call (626) 797-0789.

Donations at $80 per adult and $35 per student from pre-K to 12th grade are encouraged. Tables of 10 will be available for $750.
