Members of the Pasadena Northwest Commission will tour the Heritage Square Senior Apartments project in Pasadena on Thursday, September 8, in an effort to see how the project, located at 762 N. Fair Oaks Blvd. and which had a target completion date of spring 2016, is going.

A Special Meeting Agenda for the Commission said the tour will begin at the construction trailer at 4:30 p.m.

The project broke ground in March 2015 with the aim of providing 70 units of affordable senior housing in a community that blends into the existing neighborhood and addresses the needs of seniors and the community.

The pedestrian-friendly development will offer landscaped spaces for casual and organized social gatherings, plus the potential future integration of residential and retail into one cohesive development.

The development will serve seniors age 55 and above who can live independently and whose income is up to 30 to 50 percent of Area Median Income, or between $17,450 and $29,050 for a one-person household. Monthly rents are expected to be approximately 30 percent of a household’s income.

The City of Pasadena initiated its community outreach effort in December 2009 for the development of the project and presented concept design schemes. Throughout 2010, the City convened a working group of community stakeholders to define the goals and objectives of the Heritage Square development and to develop selection criteria for the developer partner.

A request for proposals (RFP) was issued, and in 2011, the City selected Bridge Housing Corporation through a competitive process to develop the project.

Financing for the $22.8 million Heritage Square project is being provided by Wells Fargo, N.A.; the City of Pasadena; California Community Reinvestment Corporation; and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee. KTGY Group is the architect of record, Steinberg Architects is the design architect and Dreyfuss Construction is the general contractor.

Early last month, Bridge housing announced they were no longer accepting applications for residency at the Heritage Square Senior Apartments.
