The 54th annual Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2018 is taking off on April 22, and will feature prominent local designers at a 1915 Mediterranean estate in Pasadena designed by architect Reginald Davis Johnson.

The Pasadena Showcase House organizes the annual fundraiser for the Arts (PSHA), an all-volunteer non-profit California Corporation whose members donate their time and talents to produce this yearly event. The success of the Pasadena Showcase House of Design has enabled PSHA to make cumulative donations of more than $23 million to support community music and arts programs throughout the Pasadena community.

Pasadena Showcase House of Design is one of the largest and most successful home and garden tours in the U.S., with approximately 30,000 visitors shuttled from nearby locations to get to the chosen Showcase house.

This year, the 2018 Showcase House is “The Overlook.” It was constructed in 1915 at the cost of $14,000 for widowed sisters Ruth Hargrove and Mary Emma Baker.

The house sits on a sweeping 1.6-acre compound which includes a pool on lushly landscaped grounds. Exterior designs include a kitchen garden, a guest house garden, an olive court, a Bohemian hideaway, pool, outdoor kitchen, veranda and poolside garden.

The Overlook was also the 2002 Pasadena Showcase of Design House, although renovations began anew after that. Subsequent owners have added contemporary elements to suit their taste and lifestyle, making it an eclectic blend of unique living space.

Tickets range from $35 to $60.

The Pasadena Showcase House of Design tour runs through May 20.

Complimentary parking and shuttle service is available at Santa Anita Race Track, Gate 6, Colorado Lot, Colorado Place in Arcadia.
