Old Pasadena’s Forever 21 Store Is Closing

Forever 21, the Los Angeles-based low-priced fashion chain that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September, will be closing its Pasadena store by January 2020, according to a new listing just recently released.

Pasadena’s Forever 21 is housed in one of Old Pasadena’s most iconic historical buildings, its iconic Art Deco-style tower rises above the skyline. The two-story store attracts young fashionistas with its current collections, on-trend apparel, and unique shopping environment.

The Pasadena store, at 35 N. De Lacey Avenue, is one of up to 178 stores that the privately held Los Angeles-based company said it was closing to shrink its footprint and ensure its financial problems are more manageable.

About 12 of those stores are in Southern California.

Chapter 11 bankruptcies are often filed as a plan to tackle debt and to reorganize.

Forever 21, founded in 1984, joins Barneys New York and Diesel USA in a growing list of retailers seeking bankruptcy protection after suffering difficulty in their brick-and-mortar sales because of the growing preference for online apparel shopping.

Like other fast-fashion chains, Forever 21 was riding a wave of popularity among younger customers since the mid-1990s, until fast fashion started falling out of style over the last year or so.

The Pasadena store is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. No date has yet been announced for its January 2020 closing.
