Former USC professor James A. Osterling has surged ahead in the fight for the Disrict Two seat in the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, overtaking opponent Tom Selinske by 118 votes, 2,163 to 2,045.

Osterling trailed by just three votes on election night, 1,718 against Solenski’s 1,721, but then mailed votes started coming in and adding more numbers.

“It looks like more people voted by mail this year than in person,” Selinske had said before the updated results.

Now, Osterling is declaring victory.

“Latest updated results as of Nov 13 and, according to the County, there are no more votes to be counted. I won the election by 118 votes,” Osterling said on his campaign website, www.osgterlingforpcc.com.

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Clerk office says 99 percent of all votes have been counted, although the election results will not be certified until November 23rd. There will be no further updates until the official results.

A report by the PCC Courier said over 800 votes were tallied after the polls closed – nearly 20 percent of all ballots cast. Over the half the total votes for the two top candidates came by mail.

Osterling will be sworn in during the December 9th board meeting when he and District Four winner Hoyt Hilsman replace Jeanette Mann, who’s retiring after 30 years of service, and Bill Thomson.
