Package Thieves Hit Mar Vista Avenue Condominiums

Two thieves have been helping themselves to residents’ packages at a Pasadena condo-complex on Mar Vista Avenue as recently as last Friday. According to broadcast reports a suspect used a key to get into the complex then grabbed packages left on the ground for residents, then used a master key to access the mailboxes.

Surveillance video captured the suspect picking through and stealing out of 16-mailboxes. The suspect loads the packages into backpack and shoves stolen mail into his pants. Meanwhile, video from two weeks ago captured another suspect doing to the same thing

Resident Derek Ganter told ABC7 News he believes checks he was expecting and his car registration were among the stolen mail. Other residents say they are concerned about identity theft.

“We just don’t know until something happens if our identities have been compromised or not. There’s a lot of anxiety, a lot of angst amongst the family,” Ganter told the TV Station.

Pasadena Police are reportedly reviewing the videos from the complex and notices have gone out to the property’s more than 90 residents. Law enforcement says they’ve made arrests of mail theft suspects in Pasadena and San Marino recently.

The property management is said to have told residents they are planning to install parcel boxes and residents are being urged to track delivery of packages and frequently check mailboxes to head off thefts.
