Padre Pio Relics, Memorabilia Will Visit Saint Andrew Church

Pio RelicRelics belonging to St. Pio of Pietrelcina will be in Pasadena today and Saturday as part of a 35-diocese United States tour to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death.

On March 16 and 17, the relics will be available for veneration at Saint Andrew Church in Old Pasadena.

A schedule provided by Saint Andrew Church says a mass will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, March 16, followed by a day-long veneration in the church. A special mass will be held at 7 p.m.

The next day, Saturday, March 17, mass will be said at 8:15 a.m. followed by veneration until 12 p.m.

On March 18, the relics will be taken to St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church in Encino, where a mass will be held at 5 p.m.

Better known as Padre Pio, the Italian priest was a mystic celebrated for his powers of healing and prophecy. He bore wounds resembling those of Christ known as the “stigmata.”

The relics include a glove and handkerchief belonging to the Italian saint as well as a lock of his hair, crust from his “stigmata” wounds and a cotton gauze with his blood stains.
