On Monday, May 6th, LCPC Parent Education Program had its annual Year End Celebration at Ashley Barrett’s home culminating their 40th Anniversary Year! In addition to showing deep gratitude for its 44 team members, the Young and Erskine families were honored for the memorials they donated to LCPC Parent Education over the past year. The evening began with an elegant potluck and then commendations were made by Director, Anne Bierling. Board Chair, Maggie Mason, presented gifts with the theme verse: “The Joy of the Lord is My Strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

The Cathy & Christopher Erskine Compassion Memorial was established in honor of Christopher and Cathy’s generous spirits. To date, the memorial has collected over $20,000 and been used to help individuals and families in need. Cathy Erskine was an inspiring board chair of LCPC Parent Education from 2006-2007 and a faithful member of their Advisory Council (MST). Cathy lost her battle with cancer on November 30th, 2018. Her son, Christopher Michael IV, died in March 2018. On site to accept the plaques honoring Cathy and Christopher were Jack Erskine and Chris Erskine. Donors may still contribute to the Cathy and Christopher Erskine Compassion Memorial by sending checks to LCPC Parent Ed at 626 Foothill Blvd La Canada, CA 91011 (designating the Erskine Memorial).

Additionally, memorials from Eileen Young totaling $4,458 were donated to the LCPC Parent Education Founders’ Scholarship Fund to provide partial or full tuition for those participants needing assistance. Eileen, who died in December of 2018, was a beloved LCPC Parent Education teacher assistant for almost 20 years and was named LCPC Parent Education’s 2019 Honorary Shining Star. On site to receive acknowledgements of this honor was her husband, George Young.

As LCPC Parent Education winds up its 40th Year, highlights included: hosting approximate 600 parents and children in their 2018-2019 classes, expanding their evening classes through their Parent Express Program, and raising records amounts through fundraising. All this was possible because of community support and their wonderful team of staff, board and MST members. 2018-2019 team members included: Amanda Baughman, Angela Shepherd-Isagholian, Anne Bierling, Ashley Barrett, Ashley Smith, Barbara Stratte, Betsy Farhat, Carol Van Citters, Charlotte Miller, Daniela Kim, Darby Pearson, Debbie Barsom, Dorothy Chen, Heather Ehrhart, Jan Roberts, Jana Van Dyck, Jina Khachik, Judy Lee, Kathy Kovalcik, Katrina Harbers, Katie Enney, Katy Riddell, Lynne Graves, Maggie Mason, Meg Wade, Mikki Weightman, Monica Skeehan, Melanie Frey, Nanette Brown, Paige Dunbar, Paige Thatcher, Paula Giboney, Rebekah Garcia, Sarah Montes, Sloan Walsh, Stephanie Ferguson, Tracy Tobias, and Vicki Rekedal.
