Parsons, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Business Council, hosted a workshop at its Pasadena corporate headquarters on Tuesday, November 19. The workshop aimed to educate representatives from school districts throughout Southern California about energy efficiency improvements to be made at California public schools with funds allocated from Proposition 39—the California Clean Energy Jobs Act.

The purpose of this 2-hour workshop was to bring together superintendents, heads of school facilities, plant and maintenance supervisors, and assistant supervisors for business services to discuss Proposition 39, including the application process, timeline, and funding sources. The event featured Tom Torlakson, the California state superintendent of public instruction; Kevin DeLeon, California state senator; and Steve Veres, Los Angeles Community College trustee; as well as representatives from each of the Southern California utility companies.

“As a leading provider of energy efficiency assessment services for K–12 schools, community colleges, and universities, Parsons is pleased to have hosted this important workshop, which addressed the steps that schools can take to develop energy plans and projects that will enable them to make the best use of Proposition 39 funds,” said Randy Britt, Parsons sustainability director.

Sustainability is one of Parsons’ core values. Parsons adds to its projects such sustainable features as rainwater collection systems, construction waste management, occupancy sensors, CO2 monitoring, and the use of products made from recycled materials. The corporation has also worked on countless Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified projects.
