Parson’s Superstorm Sandy Repair and Rehabilitation Project Wins ACEC National Honor Award

Parsons is pleased to announce that the Superstorm Sandy Repair and Rehabilitation project for the Montague Tunnels in New York City—designed by Parsons—recently earned an Engineering Excellence Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The annual Engineering Excellence Awards recognize the most exemplary engineering achievements from across the globe.

“Parsons is honored that the Superstorm Sandy Repair and Rehabilitation project has been selected for this award from among the many projects that were nominated worldwide,” said Todd Wager, Parsons Group President. “The project not only exemplified innovative engineering, it also restored an important transportation corridor for the citizens of New York City as they worked to recover from the damage caused by the massive storm.”

Parsons, as part of a joint venture, designed the repair and replacement of damaged equipment to restore the Montague, Clark Street, and Canarsie subway tunnels that were flooded by Superstorm Sandy, the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. The project, completed under an accelerated schedule, also included design improvements to harden the tubes and associated facilities against possible Category 2 hurricane storm surges. Parsons is still providing professional services to numerous projects in New York in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
