Recently, the Pasadena-Altadena Chapter of The Links Incorporated, hosted their annual holiday affair, “Diamonds and Pearls: Winter Wonderland” at the Imperial Palace in Pasadena.

At the sold-out affair, over 315 guests enjoyed a lively cocktail reception, savory gourmet brunch fare, and greetings from Chapter President Cheryl Myers. Guests marveled at the beautiful ambiance of the “Winter Wonderland” amid the alluring silver illuminated centerpieces and sparkling chandeliers.

The highlight of the afternoon was honoring beloved alumnae Link members, Hazel Livingston and Dr. Floraline Stevens, who both have contributed immensely to the chapter and Greater Pasadena area through philanthropic giving. The chapter’s award winning mentoring program, Links-Up for Success was highlighted in a brief video, which showcased the chapters in-depth positive exposure, team building, bonding, and cultural activities offered to PUSD middle and high school girls.

Mai-Lin Graves, a chapter Continuing Scholar of Excellence Scholarship Recipient passionately shared with the crowd about the tremendous impact the $2,000 annual scholarship has had on her academic pursuits at UCLA.

Many local elected officials, dignitaries, representatives, and Link Members from sister chapters were in attendance, including 11th Western Area Links Director, Thelma Rice, Pasadena Vice Mayor, John J. Kennedy, Senator Anthony Portantino, Phlunte Riddle, District Director, Assemblymember Chris Holden’s Office, PUSD Board Member Elizabeth Pomeroy and Jan Perry, General Manager of the Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department.

The event was chaired by Earlie Douglas with Tarsha Proctor Standridge serving as the afternoon’s dynamic Mistress of Ceremony. Mr. Aalon Butler, lead singer and guitarist kept the crowd rocking with soulful and contemporary tunes, rounding out the afternoon with large crowd dance participation in the rhythmic “Wobble.”

The annual chapter fundraiser raised $31,000 for the 29th Annual Isaac McClelland Memorial Scholarship which benefits graduating PUSD seniors and chapter programs. The chapter has awarded over $600,000 in college scholarships to PUSD students.
