Current PCC Trustee Dr. Ross Selvidge announced Saturday that he will be seeking re-election to the Pasadena Area Community College Board of Trustees for Area 1. Area 1 includes the City of La Canada Flintridge, West Pasadena and the western portion of Altadena.

“In 2015, not long after I joined the Board of Trustees, the accreditation commission placed the college on probation for various deficiencies in organizational functions and planning practices. I am pleased that during my service as President of the Board of Trustees this past year, the probation was lifted and the college was recognized multiple times for academic excellence and service to its students,” Selvidge said in a statement.

Selvidge also said he has maintained “an independent mindset while resisting any pressures that could compromise academic quality or fiscal responsibility” during his current tenure.

Saturday’s statement from Selvidge quoted Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek as praising Selvidge for providing “critical leadership that has enabled PCC to enhance its reputation through accountability and transparency.”

The statement listed endorsements of Selvidge from Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek, Pasadena Councilmember Tyron Hampton, Los Angeles Supervisor Kathryn Barger; La Canada School Board members Dan Jeffries and Brent Kuszyk; La Canada Flintridge council members Mike Davitt, Teresa Walker, Jon Curtis, Leonard Pieroni and Gregory Brown; former La Canada Mayor Laura Olhasso; Sierra Madre Mayor Rachelle Arizmendi; former Presidents of the West Pasadena Resident’s Association Vince Farhat, Carolyn Naber and Fred Zepeda; former Presidents of the Linda Vista Annandale Association Lee Zanteson and Norm Parker; PUSD Board members Scott Phelps and Roy Boulghourjian; PCC Foundation Board members William Opel and Mel Cohen; Jim Kossler, former President of PCC and Geoff Baum, Former President of the Board of Governors of the California Community College System, among others.

The statement also included a remark from Pasadena Councilmember Tyron Hampton, who is reported to have said “Dr. Ross Selvidge and I both graduated from Pasadena’s Muir High School. Ross was extremely supportive of the effort to open a PCC satellite campus at Muir to give Muir students the opportunity to take college courses.”
