Jim Mizes has retired as the CEO of Blaze Pizza, the pizza chain that first opened in Pasadena and has now branched out to more than 300 restaurants in 42 states and five countries.

On Tuesday, Blaze Pizza named Amanda Shaw interim CEO as it looks for a permanent replacement, according to food service industry news outlet Restaurant Business.

Mizes retired effective on Friday, the company said.

Shaw has been chief financial officer of the Pasadena-based chain since 2018. She had previously held several roles with Outback Steakhouse owner Bloomin’ Brands, including chief information officer and CFO for its international division.

Blaze Pizza said Shaw has been working with Mizes to ensure a smooth transition process. A search committee has already begun the search for a permanent successor to Mizes, the company said.

Blaze Pizza was founded in Pasadena by Rick and Elise Wetzel in 2011.

Last December, the company said they were adding stores in six states and breaking ground in three to continue its nationwide expansion.

It now operates three locations in Pasadena: at 1100 Fair Oaks Avenue, 667 E. Colorado Blvd., and 643 North Fair Oaks Avenue at the Fair Oaks Renaissance Plaza.
