A Pasadena-based solar power company has proposed to develop a 105-acre solar facility that could power about 3,000 single-family homes in Campbell County, Virginia.

Coronal Energy, with headquarters at 150 E. Colorado Boulevard, Suite 100 in Pasadena, has briefed the Campbell County Planning Commission about its proposal to build a solar farm on Depot Road near the intersection of U.S. 501 and Virginia 24.

The Planning Commission meets Monday night to consider Coronal Energy’s proposal as well as those of two other firms who have submitted their intention to build solar farms.

Campbell County currently has no solar farms, a report on the Lynchburg, Virginia-based The News and Advance said.

Coronal Energy and one other company gave a presentation in December for the Planning Commission, although the board did not make a decision, saying they wanted more information about the impact of solar farms on communities.

Board members led by Chairman Robert Metz have tasked a committee to find out how completed solar farm sites have impacted people and existing industries. In the News and Advance report, Metz said the county wants to ensure they alleviate any issues that may arise from solar farm development, before approving any new facilities.

A public hearing Monday night will attempt to find out how residents see the coming of solar energy during a public hearing scheduled for Monday night. A new solar project proponent will also be given a chance to make a presentation before the Commission.
