A Pasadena-based engineering company recently inked a deal worth over $400 million with the U.S. Department of Energy to build its new National Nuclear Security Administration.

Tetra Tech — along with its partner Sealaska Technical Services — were selected for the Design, Integration, Construction, Communication and Engineering contract, which will see the duo share its workload and funds over seven years, according to a statement released to the press.

The contract was administered by the security administration’s Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence, an agency that deters and detects the illegal trafficking of radioactive materials across borders and within countries, according to the media statement.

“Tetra Tech has provided engineering design and installation services to the NSDD office since 2002,” said Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech’s Chairman and CEO in the press release. “We look forward to working with our joint venture partner to continue supporting the NNSA in this important program.”

The joint venture will provide the installation and deployment of fixed and mobile radiation detection systems commonly found in airports, border checkpoints, seaports, internal country locations and maritime borders outside of the United States, according to the press release.

Tetra Tech was founded in 1966 and has provided consulting and engineering services worldwide since. With 16,000 staff members, the company can provide clear solutions for complex problems related to infrastructure, resource, water and energy management and international development.

According to the company’s history, Tetra Tech was also awarded a contract by the Department of Energy in 1992 to configure nuclear weapons.
