Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez

Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez said Thursday night although law enforcement is not certain if the man who shot and killed four U.S. Marines in Chattanooga, Tenn. is part of a larger plot there is no known threat to Pasadena or the region.

“We have also talked with our Military Counterparts and they are not aware of any concerns and/or threats at this time,” Sanchez said.

Pasadena police officers assigned to the Field Operations Division are providing extra patrols at the Marine Reserve Base and the Military Recruiting Offices located in Pasadena, he said.

“This cowardly act, however, is a good time to remember: ‘f you See Something; Say Something,’” Sanchez said.

“If You See Something, Say Something™” is a national campaign that raises public awareness of the indicators of terrorism and terrorism-related crime, as well as the importance of reporting suspicious activity to state and local law enforcement.

The theme of the campaign, promulagted by the Department of Homeland Security, is that if you see something you know shouldn’t be there — or someone’s behavior that doesn’t seem quite right—say something to local police.

To report suspicious activity, officials say you should describe specifically what you observed, including: Who or what you saw;
when you saw it; where it occurred; and why it’s suspicious.

In progress crimes should be reported to the Police Department via 9-1-1.  Non-emergency situations, which would include suspicious behavior or packages can be reported through (626) 744-4241.

Concerns are directly related to Homeland Security or terrorism can be emailed directly to the Joint Regional Intelligence Center at
