Pasadena City College Board of Trustees Hold Budget Hearings Wednesday

The Board of Trustees at Pasadena City College Area Community College District will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 19, about the tentative budget for Pasadena City College for fiscal year 2019-2020.

The Tentative Budget is considered an operational placeholder until the State of California has an approved budget in place and the Chancellor’s Office specifically informs each college district of their anticipated funding for the coming fiscal year. Presented to the Board of Trustees last September, the proposed budget will reflect those funding changes identified in the approved state budget.

Under state law, each California community college district is required have a tentative budget approved by the Governing Board by July 1 of each fiscal year. The tentative budget allows for the continuation of payroll and vendor warrant payments until the Governing Board approves an adopted budget by September 15.

The public hearing on Wednesday, which is a segment of the Board of Trustees meeting, will be held in response to the recommendation by the PCC administration to hold a hearing so members of the public can speak their mind about the proposed fiscal year 2019-2020 Tentative Budget.

The PCC administration also recommends adoption of the budget by the PCC Board of Trustees.

In another finance-related issue, PCC is also recommending that the Board adopt a resolution which would authorize the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President, Business and Administrative Services to transfer an aggregate cash balance from unrestricted District funds if the need arises during fiscal year 2019-2020.

Resolution No. 606 sets the procedures for the District to resolve situations when it may temporarily find that it does not have enough cash to meet its fiscal obligations in the general or other operating funds. According to the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting, the Board’s authorization would ensure that PCC could perform business operations according to schedule.

The PCC Board of Trustees meeting opens with a closed session at 6 p.m. and proceeds to the open meeting at 7 p.m. at the PCC’s Creveling Lounge, at 1570 E. Colorado Blvd. In Pasadena.
