Pasadena City College Upward Bound Receives $220,000 Grant

The California Community Foundation and the College Access Foundation of California has awarded the PCC  Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science programs a $220,000 grant for scholarships and college support.

“The College Access Foundation of California, is very impressed with our programs and support our mission to provide scholarships and support to our students, Heba Griffiths, Interim Associate Dean of Student Life said.”  For the next two years, the Upward Bound programs will receive $184,000 in scholarship support and $36,000 in operating support according to Dr. Victor Garcia, Program Officer for College Access Foundation of California.  This grant will provide two-year scholarships for 30 students.

In November 2013, the PCC Upward Bound programs were awarded $110,000 to support 15 students over two years.  Dr. Mark W. Rocha offered his “congratuations and gratitude to the Upward Bound programs for their unwavering commitment to PCC students and their tireless efforts in securing funds for scholarships.”

The Upward Bound programs are pre-college programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education designed to encourage students to develop the skills and motivation necessary for success in college and beyond.
