Pasadena Deltas Present a “A White Linen Affair” Scholarship Luncheon

On Sunday, June 4, 2017, the La Canada-Flintridge Country Club was filled with community members, elected officials, supporters, family and friends as the Pasadena Delta Foundation (PDF) in collaboration with the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PAC) hosted its 3rd Annual White Linen Affair in honor of the 2017 Academic Award Recipients. The room was beautifully decorated by Scarlet Flowers Designs, setting the stage for an enjoyable afternoon which included entertainment and music by the JazzZone Ensemble, Emcee – Charmaine Jefferson – Director of Kélan Resources, a delicious meal, shopping and dancing. The program was opened by PDF President Charmayne Mills Ealy and (PAC) President Pixie Boyden. The invocation was given by Chaplain Phyllis Beech and State Senator Anthony Portantino and Assemblyman Chris Holden brought greeting to the audience. The Tournament of Roses supported the event as a Bronze Sponsor.

 

 

Dr. Lindsey Malcom-Piqueux. Academic Awards Committee Co-chair and Christina Bentley, Committee Member, presented awards, in the amount of $1,000 each, to the following deserving and accomplished students: Houlemard Family to Amari Dennis – Flintridge Preparatory School,, Carolyn Edwards Jones Commemorative to Shannon Larsuel – Mayfield Senior School, Nelle Kigh Thompson Commemorative to Haneen Eltiab – Larchmont Charter School, Mabel Lockett Martin Commemorative to Ulani Mafate – Muir High School, Gwendolyn & Tommy McMullins Family to Iman Muhammad – Pasadena High School, Jane Strong-Moses & Jesse Moses to Grant Spence – Cathedral High School, Willie Mae Hooks Lewis Commemorative, to Aleeza Drummond – Pasadena High School, Anita Johnson Cole Commemorative to Elyse Sharp – Muir High School, Jean & Clarence Mills Family to Aleena Drummond – Pasadena High School, and the Presidents’ commemorative to Lauryn Miller – Muir High School. Certificates of commendation were received by each award winner from the offices of Congresswoman Judy Chu, Senator Anthony Portantino, Assemblyman Chris Holden, Supervisor Kathryn Bargar and Mayor Terry Tornek.

 

PAC has given over $435,000 in academic awards to worthy students for the pursuit of post-secondary education over the last fifty-four years. In addition to educational development, the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter has provided services in the areas of economic development, physical and mental health and political and international awareness/involvement since its chartering on January 27, 1961.

 

The Academic Awards Committee consists of Denise Jones/Lindsey Malcom-Piqueux – Co-Chairs, Christina Bentley, Myra Booker, Hilarie Dyson Green, Johari DeWitt-Rogers, Gwendolyn McMullins, Kathy Pentecost, Juanda Scoggins, Rayne Stewart, Alma Stokes, Carlette Thompson and Sylvia Wiggins.

 

Pasadena Delta Foundation (PDF) was incorporated in 1992 as a Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation to provide Academic Awards, and Public Service projects for the benefit of the community. The White Linen Affair Committee consists of Melinda Campbell/Hilarie Dyson Green, Co-Chairs, Phyllis Beech, Tanya Cobb, Ty Anne Evans, Denise Jones, Charmayne Mills Ealy, Kathy Murrell, Ella Turenne, Debra Ward-Samad, Esther Watkins, Juanita West-Tillman, Deborah Williams and Jo Yeargin.
