Pasadena Driver Charged in Hit-and-Run Which Killed Local Woman Pleads Not Guilty

Francisco Javier Soto-Cedillo, charged in the hit-and-run collision that led to the death of a 27-year-old Pasadena woman on the night of October 21 in the 1100 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue, has pleaded not guilty.

Earlier, police identified Soto-Cedillo, 24 of Pasadena as the driver of a white Nissan Pathfinder that hit Jessica Torres as the victim walked across North Fair Oaks Avenue near Claremont Street at about 7:20 p.m. on October 21.

Paramedics arriving on the scene of the incident found Torres suffering from major injuries. They were unable to revive the victim; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Soto-Cedillo was arrested on Tuesday, October 23, and charged with vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run, and an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He is being held on $85,000 bail.

The defendant was arraigned last Thursday.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Soto-Cedillo faces a possible maximum sentence of four years in prison if convicted of the charges. He is scheduled back in court on November 27.
