Marquise Jackson, a Pasadena father who is accused by authorities of killing his daughter almost five years ago, will be in court in Pasadena Monday for a pretrial hearing, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office said.

In his arraignment on September 12, 2011, Jackson pleaded not guilty to suffocating his own daughter, Mo-Nayjah Jackson, in a Pasadena apartment in May that year.

A report in the Los Angeles Times on August 29, 2011 quoted Pasadena Police officers as saying Jackson had admitted he suffocated the 1-year-old baby.

Members of the Pasadena police and fire departments came to the aid of 1-year-old Mo-Nayjah in the 100 block of West Del Mar Blvd. on May 20, 2011, Pasadena Star-News reported that month.

The child was not breathing and attempts to resuscitate the girl were unsuccessful, the report quoted a Police Department statement.

The girl’s family earlier said they didn’t know what had happened the little girl which might have caused her death, so police considered the case a suspicious death and initiated an investigation.

Jackson was arrested in Lancaster by Pasadena Police officers on August 25, 2011 and charged on August 29, 2011 with the murder, the LA Times quoted Pasadena Police Lt. Tracey Ibarra as saying then.

Jackson has been in jail since his arrest in lieu of $1 million bail.
