Pasadena Fire Chief Names Two New Deputy Chiefs

Eugene Campbell, Jr. has been named Pasadena's new Fire Marshal and Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention & Administration, while Jon Trautwein is the new Deputy Chief of Operations

After an extensive nationwide search, Pasadena Fire Chief Bertral Washington has named Jon Trautwein as Deputy Chief of Operations and Eugene Campbell, Jr. as Fire Marshal and Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention & Administration.

Chief Trautwein has served as the Department’s Acting Deputy Chief of Operations for the last 10 months and has over 21 years of firefighter experience with the Pasadena Fire Department.

Trautwein started as an Auxiliary Firefighter in 1992 and was hired in 1994, working his way up the ranks. He has served in Operations, Emergency Medical Services and as a Training Battalion Chief; Fire Captain; Paramedic and Firefighter. His fire experience also includes Urban Search & Rescue, Strike Team Leader, and Hazardous Materials Fire Responder. Additionally, he holds State of California Chief and Fire Officer Certifications and is a member of the Departments Honor Guard program. Trautwein has his Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Northridge and recently completed the first year of the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program at the National Fire Academy. He served four years as the Pasadena Fire Management Association President and seven years on the Pasadena Firefighters Association Board. Trautwein and his wife Barbara are parents of teenage children, Joshua and Jessica and they currently reside in Temecula.

Eugene Campbell, Jr. will serve as Fire Marshal and Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention & Administration. With 23 years of firefighter experience, Campbell has served in the cities of Dallas (TX) and Las Vegas (NV) as Acting Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Fire Investigator, Bomb Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter. His fire experience also includes community risk reduction, training and homeland security. Campbell served in law enforcement as the Director of Safety and Security for Plainfield (NJ) Public Schools, and Police Officer with the City of North Las Vegas Police Department and the United States Air Force. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership and Bachelor of Science Degree in Work Force Education from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. He completed the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program at the National Fire Academy; the Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence; the Executive Leadership program at the Naval Post Graduate School; the Leadership program for Executives at the Kennedy School of Government, at Harvard University; and the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute for Fire Service Leadership.

Campbell and his wife Debra are the parents of two adult sons, Brandon and Avery.
