The Pasadena Fire Department has committed equipment and personnel to fight a fast-moving, 13,500-acre fire in Northern California near Morgan Valley which has forced authorities to evacuate 600.

The blaze grew from 150 acres to more than 4 ½ square miles within six hours earlier Wednesday evening, moving rapidly in hard-to-access terrain heavy with brush and timber, Cal Fire said.

The fire was 5 percent contained as of Thursday night and had burned across 13,500 acres.

Pasadena Fire Engine 31, Burbank Fire Engines 11 and 12, Glendale Fire Engines 25 and 26 under the command of Pasadena Battalion Chief Seaton King responded to the fire shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday morning, local officials report.

Pasadena’s team joins 914 other firefighters and 118 fire engines battling the blaze.

The team worked a “12 hour response” Thursday and remains at the scene today, officials reported.
