The Pasadena Fire Department is now looking to recruit new Firefighter Trainees, who will take the four-month Firefighter Basic Course before qualifying for Firefighter I appointment.

Working with the City of Pasadena’s Human Resources Department, the Fire Department will be looking for individuals who will assist in its mission to provide protection of life, property, and the environment from the effects of fires, medical emergencies, and hazards.

“Applications are being accepted through February 11, 2016,” Pasadena Fire Chief Bertral L. Washington said. “Those interested can seek information from the Fire Department or Human Resources, but all applications must be submitted online. Anyone without internet access is encouraged to visit one of our local libraries.”

To qualify for the Fire Trainee position, an applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, must be 18 years old at the time of appointment, and have a valid Class C Driver’s License at the time of hire. Other certifications may be obtained after applications are submitted, but are required prior to being considered for hire.

“To date, PFD has 18 vacancies in the sworn ranks,” Chief Washington said. “Through attrition, we generate approximately six new vacancies each year. We expect to start 14 Lateral Firefighters/Paramedics on February 22, 2016.”

To apply, interested parties are advised to click here or call the Fire Department by phone at (626) 744-4655 for Firefighter Trainee Recruitment questions.
