The Pasadena Fire Department has sent two engines and 10 firefighters to fight a blaze near Wrightwood which briefly endangered a Girl Scout Camp where 90 girls were camping.

Engines 31 and 34 left the city about 4:40 a.m., heading for a staging area on Mt. High West at Highway 2 near Big Pines, authorities report.

The exact assignment and location for the strike team will be determined when they arrive based on the need, the Department said.

The Pines Fire was reported at approximately 9:40 p.m. Friday, July 17 along the Angeles Crest Highway. Approximately 150 firefighters are on scene and over 100 acres have burned.

Highway 2 from Wrightwood to Big Pines is closed.

As of 11:20 p.m., 100 acres had burned, and officials were requesting two five-engine strike teams and several bulldozers.

The fire was burning in heavy timber, threatening structures and the Big Pine Campground.

The incident commander requested the closure of Angeles Crest from Wrightwood to Big Pines.
