A Pasadena firefighter is now assigned as a Fire Line Paramedic in the Cabin Fire that started July 18 and continues to burn in the Western Divide Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest.

Pasadena Firefighter/Paramedic M. Gallardo responded to an overhead mutual aid request – a request to extend emergency assistance across jurisdictions – to help in fighting the wildland fire that now covers 2,619 acres within the jurisdiction of Springville, California.

Battalion Chief David Watson
said Gallardo checked in at 9 p.m. Saturday and will deploy today.

On Saturday, firefighters completed approximately 40 percent of the line preparation along the Summit Trail to the west of the fire for use as primary containment. Work along this area of the line is continuing and firefighters are planning to complete the line from Pecks to the 2014 Soda Fire by today.

Gallardo is among 295 fire personnel helping fight the blaze.
