It’s Election Day for Pasadena, where voters will join residents of the 88 cities and 5,253,855 voters in Los Angeles County participating in today’s Consolidated Municipal and Special Elections.

In Pasadena, voters will be deciding three council races and four seats on the Pasadena Unified School District board as well as voting on County measures.

City Council District 5 incumbent Victor Gordo faces two opponents— education activist Aida Morales and writer Krystal Lopez Podley—while District 7 incumbent Andy Wilson, who was appointed by the City Council in 2015 to fill the seat left vacant by the election of Mayor Terry Tornek, faces four challengers–attorney Phil Hosp, Amtrak employee Bryan Witt, Attorney Alex Menchaca, and PR consultant Sheena Tahilramani. Incumbent John Kennedy is running unopposed for his District 3 seat.

Candidates who win a majority of the votes cast for a seat, will take office in June. Should no candidate win a majority in a particular office, a runoff election will be held in May between the top two finishers.

There are four PUSD incumbents and three challengers vying for seats in four School Board districts. District 1 incumbent and board president Kimberly Kenne faces former attorney Rita Miller, while District 3 incumbent Adrienne Ann Mullen faces PUSD classified employee Michelle Richardson-Bailey. Former Board President and District 5 incumbent, Elizabeth Pomeroy faces Muir High School teacher Matthew Baron. Scott Phelps, the incumbent in District 7, is running unopposed.

Pasadena voters will also be voting on Measure H, the Los Angeles County Plan to Prevent and Combat Homelessness. As described by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, the measure would fund mental health, substance abuse treatment, health care, education, job training, rental subsidies, emergency and affordable housing, transportation, outreach, prevention, and supportive services for homeless children, families, foster youth, veterans, battered women, seniors, disabled individuals, and other homeless adults; and authorize ¼ cent sales tax for ten years, with independent annual audits and citizens’ oversight.

This year’s election will be run by the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters, and the City will not be participating as in previous years. Live coverage of the voting numbers will be available following the closing of polling places, at http://lavote.net/home/voting-elections/current-elections/election-results.

According to the LA County Registrar, “Election night results are semifinal official canvass results and should not be considered final official results. Election results updates are time stamped.”

While one voting location was open over the weekend at Jackie Robinson Center, and voters have been voting by mail for at least two weeks, there are 27 polling places open today:
