Pasadena Health Department Earns National Accreditation

Pasadena Public Health Department Director Michael Johnson announced Friday the department has achieved national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board.

The Pasadena Public Health Department is one of only eight public health agencies in California and less than 200 across the nation to achieve this distinction for achieving national standards that foster community health needs and promote continuous quality improvement

“This national recognition is the culmination of more than four years of hard work by PPHD staff and our community partners. Our department underwent a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process to meet or exceed public health quality standards and measures,” Johnson said.

The Pasadena Public Health Department  accreditation is for five years, 2016 through 2021.

With accreditation, the Pasadena Health Department is demonstrating increased accountability and credibility to the public, funders, elected officials and partner organizations to better serve the health needs of the Pasadena community. The Public Health Accreditation Board evaluation analyzed many things, such as how well the Pasadena Health Department is able to assess health conditions in the community and how well staff are prepared to respond to disease outbreaks or other emergencies.

PHAB http://www.phaboard.org is the only national accreditation program for public health agencies and ensures consistency in meeting standards by public health departments.

For more than 120 years, the Pasadena Public Health Department , www.cityofpasadena.net/publichealth, has worked to promote and protect the health of the greater Pasadena area. The department offers a wide range of services to promote healthy behaviors, prevent diseases, ensure access to safe food and life-saving immunizations and preparing for public health emergencies.
