Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel and Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members rescued a 54-year-old Pasadena man who became stranded in the hills above Altadena Monday.

A helicopter from the fire department hoisted the man to safety Monday night after rescue teams found him at around 10 p.m., Deputy Dan Paige of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Altadena Station said in a tweet early Tuesday.

“LA County Fire and Altadena and Mountain rescue locate 54-year-old Pasadena resident who was stranded in Rubio Canyon fire helicopter rescued him… this is not the missing 73-year-old hiker we are looking for lost at Mount Waterman,” Paige said.

Paige was referring to another man, 73-year-old Eugene Jo, who has been missing since Saturday after becoming separated from his hiking group. Authorities said the search for Jo will resume Tuesday morning.

The man who was rescued Monday night was not identified. Authorities said he was on a path he normally travels in the Rubio Canyon Hills, near Rubio Vista Road and Pleasantridge Drive, when he became stranded, according to Paige.

He said the man may have suffered an injury to the leg and was being examined.

A report by KCAL said the man used a strobe light on his phone to help rescue teams find him.
