Pasadena Literary Alliance Gives $20,000 “Lifelong Learning” Grant to Pasadena Senior Center

The Pasadena Literary Alliance has provided a $20,000 grant to the Pasadena Senior Center for The Masters Series, a program that embraces lifelong learning.

The donation is a result of proceeds from the 2016 Pasadena Festival of Women Authors, which was presented by the Pasadena Literary Alliance.

“We are so pleased to be able to celebrate the relationship between the Pasadena festival and the senior center with this grant,” said Katie Poole, co-chair of the Pasadena Literary Alliance. “It is the festival mission to support programs like the growing PSC Masters Series.”

Offered to members and non-members of the Pasadena Senior Center for more than 30 years, The Masters Series has included topics ranging from music to politics and has featured well known university professors and entertainment personalities leading the series of classes twice annually.

“This donation will go a long way in preserving the tradition of providing intellectual stimulation and higher education for mature adults in the greater Pasadena community,” said Akila Gibbs, executive director of the Pasadena Senior Center. “I appreciate the generosity of the Pasadena Literary Alliance.”

Founded in 1960, the Pasadena Senior Center is an independent, nonprofit organization that offers recreational, educational, wellness and social services to people ages 50 and over in a friendly environment. Services are also provided for frail, low-income and homebound seniors.
