In July 2019, Pasadena Media will accept a Hometown Media Award in the prestigious category of Overall Excellence in Public, Education or Government (PEG) $650,000 – 1,000,000 at this year’s national conference for the Alliance for Community Media. This highly competitive awards program receives thousands of submissions from community access centers all around the nation. The Hometown Media Awards were established to honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on PEG access cable television channels.

“I’m immensely proud of our team regarding the announcement of this recognition of our efforts to continue to provide this important community programming for the people of Pasadena,” said George Falardeau, Executive Director CEO of Pasadena Media. Pasadena Media is a non-profit operating company of the City of Pasadena that operates the community media center. In addition to providing hands-on video production experience and job skills training, the organization facilitates the four local PEG cable television channels. Pasadena Media offers a wide spectrum of dynamic programming for the people and by the people.

The City of Pasadena partners with Pasadena Media to produce government programming for KPAS, with monthly shows that highlight city departments such as the library and police department, as well as provide coverage of city council meetings and community events. The ARROYO channel allows the community an opportunity to create their own programming and broadcasts Pasadena Media original content like What’s Up Pasadena!, NewsRap, and Access for All. KLRN showcases the Pasadena Unified School District and PCCtv focuses on the activities occurring at Pasadena City College.

The Alliance for Community Media is a national membership organization that advocates, promotes and preserves the right to media training, production, distribution, civic engagement and education in support of diverse community voices, through PEG access channels and other forms of media.
