Pasadena News Now, the daily email edition of Pasadena Now’s top stories normally published daily at 7 a.m., will not be issued on Sunday, June 30, 2019, unless significant news developments occur which require its issuance, publisher James Macpherson announced today.
Instead, he said, back-end systems maintenance related to site security and firewalls will be undertaken to improve site reliability and security, in the face of a recent increase in hacking attempts into the website and increases in site usage which temporarily knocked the site offline for about two hours on June 20.
That programming and server work will prevent the regular preparation of Pasadena News Now but only for Sunday, June 30, he said.
“In a city where news never stops, it’s not easy to take the time ‘stop and take a step back’ for site upgrades,” he said, “but in this case, it is imperative we take additional steps to secure our site.”
Pasadena News Now will resume publication on Monday, July 1, 2019.
Macpherson added that the website itself will remain accessible but may be subject to spot outages as the software is installed. All social media accounts will remain unaffected.
