Multi-Agency Fraud Investigation Nets $298,000 in Cash, Three Arrests

The Pasadena Police Department in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the US Secret Service, and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control served search warrants yesterday in Pasadena, Burbank and Glendale.

Search warrants were served at the Sunshine Liquor Store (3360 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena) as well as five other locations subsequent to an investigation by the USDA for welfare/EBT fraud.

The joint investigation had been on-going since 2011, after Pasadena Police received complaints about possible welfare fraud at Sunshine Liquor.

Three adults (owner of Sunshine Liquor and 2 clerks) were arrested for Conspiracy to Commit Welfare Fraud. A fourth suspect is outstanding. Nine weapons and $298,716.00 in cash were seized.

Police report that charges were filed in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Welfare Fraud Unit on the following individuals: George Kerio, 38, Glendale resident, Nassib Shankour,43,  Pasadena resident, and Daniel Bonilla , 29, Pasadena resident.
