Pasadena detectives said Monday they have arrested a suspect in the death of a 75-year-old Pasadena woman who was found unresponsive and not breathing by police conducting a welfare check requested by the woman’s daughter.

The victim, Jeri Douglas, was located by officers called to her condominium in the 200 block of South Madison Avenue on Monday, December 17 at approximately 3:40 p.m.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Due to suspicious circumstances in the condominium, Pasadena homicide detectives responded for further investigation.

After an autopsy was conducted, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled the suspicious death a homicide.

On Wednesday, December 26 at approximately 9:22 p.m., Pasadena homicide detectives arrested a suspect in North Hollywood and charged her with Douglas’s death.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Mary Jean O’Connor.

The motive for the murder remains under investigation. Detectives do not believe this murder was a random act of violence.

According to Los Angeles County booking records, O’Connor is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

The L.A. County District Attorney filed a charge of murder against O’Connor on Dec. 28. Arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 15 in the Pasadena branch of Los Angeles County Superior Court.

No information was available regarding the victim’s cause of death from the coroner, as police have placed a “security hold” on the case, per coroner’s spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani.
