Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez said in an email Friday night that although his department is not aware of any specific threats to Pasadena residents should remain vigilant of suspicious activity and report what they see immediately to authorities.

“While we cannot discount the Internet chatter focused on ‘Lone Wolf – Non State Terror,’ we must put the terrorists’ message in context. The Pasadena Police Department is in frequent communication with regional, state and federal Law Enforcement Intelligence agencies and we have not identified a specific threat to our community or within the region,” Sanchez wrote.

Regional law enforcement agencies will activate their Emergency Operation Center(s), including Area C which includes Pasadena, to help coordinate resources should it be necessary, he said.

Sanchez stressed that every resident plays a role in “homefront security.”

“While there are no specific threats in our area, it is a good time to remind every one that ‘If you See Something; Say Something,'” Sanchez said. “If you see something suspicious, please call the Pasadena Police Department, 9-1-1 for emergencies/in progress crimes or 626-744-4241 for non-emergency incidents.”

The Pasadena Police will deploy extra officers, employees and volunteers over the holiday weekend, however, historically citizens have spotted and reported suspicious circumstances in advance of police response to mitigate terrorist activity.

“Together we can help create a secure community,” Sanchez said.

“For a number of reasons, Independent Day is very special. Lets celebrate our local first responders, Military personnel, and others who help improve the quality of life in Pasadena. Stay alert and report suspicious activity. Please keep your police officers, first responders and our community in your prayers,” Sanchez said.
