Pasadena Police Chief Recaps Week’s Critical Incidents

On November 18, the Glendale Police Department responded to the murder of an 84-year-old victim who had been severely beaten inside his apartment. Initially, it was believed the crime was part of a random burglary; however, GPD detectives quickly developed additional leads revealing the suspect was a relative. GPD detectives requested the assistance of the U.S. Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, which includes Pasadena Police officers.

On November 18 at 4:30 p.m., about 80 community members marched from Fuller Theological campus to the front steps of City Hall in support of immigration reform. The march was orderly and well organized. There were no citations, arrests, or incidents associated with the march. Pasadena Police Lieutenant Randell Taylor and Sergeant Rudy Lemos monitored the event. 

On November 19 at about 8:13 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 1900 block of North Raymond Avenue regarding several calls of shots fired. Witnesses reported that a vehicle drove by a residence and fired several shots, but fortunately, no one was injured. On November 20 at about 3:50 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the area of Green Street and Lotus Avenue (Los Angeles County jurisdiction) regarding a call for assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. On arrival, PPD ground officers, assisted by the department’s Air Operations Unit, assisted by containing the area while sheriff’s deputies searched for a stolen vehicle suspect. PPD personnel were released shortly after their arrival, however. The suspect was subsequently located and arrested by LASD. On Duty Pasadena Police Lieutenant Tom Delgado monitored the incident.

On November 20, detectives assigned to the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted with a pharmacy burglary investigation in Glendale. Along with Glendale Police Department detectives, the taskforce developed information on the suspect’s location. The taskforce contacted the burglary suspect and arrested him without incident. During the subsequent search, five loaded firearms were recovered, including an AK-47 Assault Rifle. The Pasadena Police Department participates on the taskforce.
