Pasadena police on Tuesday afternoon identified the victim of a deadly shooting which occurred at about 1:26 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 300 block of East Villa Street as Luis Aita, 25, a Los Angeles resident with Pasadena ties.

Police said officers responding to a call of shots fired discovered Aita shot to death inside a car.

Police detectives responded and canvassed the area for evidence and additional witnesses.

Lt. Jesse Carrillo confirmed reports that Aita frequents Pasadena and when he does he stays with various relatives. He had here for several days prior to his death. Carrillo said Aita’s “mother gave him permission to sleep in [her] car.”

There is little known at this time about the murder, Pasadena police Lt. Max Dahlstein said. The motive remains unknown, and no suspects have yet been identified.

The homicide is the city’s third this year. At this time last year there had been four murders in Pasadena.
