Pasadena Police, Pasadena Fire Department, And The CHP Bring A Suicidal Man Down From Overpass LedgeThe area between the westbound 210 and southbound 710 was closed to traffic today as the CHP, Pasadena Police, and the Pasadena Fire Department worked together to bring a suicidal man down from the Del Mar Avenue overpass ledge at about 9:26 am this morning.

According to the CHP report, a witness saw a heavy-set man with a beard, wearing a dark-colored t-shirt on the Del Mar Avenue overpass. He had climbed over a railing and was staring down at the traffic below.

Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department said first responders were on the scene for approximately half an hour with a rescue cushion as both Pasadena Police Department and CHP responders negotiated with the man. Police Department Lt. Pete Hettema said a dispatcher from the police department crisis negotiation team was able to talk him down.

The man has not yet been identified. He has been taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The incident was cleared at 10:23 am.
