Local progressives plan to meet Friday to examine ongoing efforts by the United Democratic HQ, Arroyo Democratic Club and Swing Left to contribute to the national effort “to take back the U.S. House of Representatives from the right-wing in 2018.”
The Progressive Discussion Group is a Pasadena-based political thought incubator that meets the first and third Fridays of every month. This week’s meeting is headlined the “Adopt-A-Republican-Congressman-For-Early-Retirement Project.”
Guests discussing how to replace the 39th Congressional District’s Ed Royce will be Bill Hacket, Chair, United Democratic HQ; Steve Timberman from the Arroyo Democratic Club; and Swing Left’s Fred Register. The moderator will be Ed Washatka.
“The 39th Congressional District, most of which is in Northeast Orange County but which includes a slice of Southeast LA County, is the closest of the 7 California congressional districts which Hillary Clinton won in 2016 and that has a Republican incumbent. With safe seats for our local congressional representatives Judy Chu and Adam Schiff, focusing volunteer resources on the 39th District is a meaningful way to act locally in furtherance of a national goal for progressives,” said the Progressive Discussion Group in its invitation.
The meeting will run from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Dupar’s Restaurant & Bakery, located at 214 S Lake Ave, Pasadena.
Meetings are open to anyone wanting to attend. DuPar’s issues separate checks to attendees, so you can have coffee, breakfast, or just thoughtful discussion of progressive issues.
