USC head football coach Clay Helton will be speaking at the Pasadena Quarterbacks on August 31 as the first in an impressive lineup of sports guests for the new football season.

Pasadena Quarterbacks President Jim Gruettner revealed the lineup in a post on the Quarterbacks’ website, adding the luncheon presentationa discussions will be at the University Club of Pasadena, at 175 N. Oakland Avenue.

“The 2018 football season is drawing closer, so it’s time to unveil The Quarterbacks’ game plan for the new season,” Gruettner said. “Thanks to Coach Harvey Hyde, we’re off and running with a first-rate lineup of speakers.”

According to the Pasadena Quarterbacks’ schedule, UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero is set to appear on September 14.

On September 21, the Quarterbacks return to a traditional format where speakers will be from one of the visiting teams playing either USC or UCLA. The Washington State Cougars will be in town that day, and the discussion may feature Washington State’s athletic director and assistant athletic director.

“We hope to add a speaker from the Utah athletic department for our program on October 26, when the Utes are in town to face the Bruins, also on a Friday evening,” Gruettner said.

Jake Olson, USC’s blind long snapper who was recently nominated to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, will be guesting on October 5.

A special program on November 2 will feature Rose Bowl Day, with a group of speakers to describe the operations and future of “The Granddaddy of the ‘Em All.”

The Los Angeles Rams will be sending a representative at a later date, and LA Times sports columnist and NFL expert Sam Farmer has also committed to be at the meeting, with the specific dates still to be determined.

Gruettner said most meetings of the Pasadena Quarterbacks also will include a coach and player from one or more of the local high schools.

The Quarterbacks meetings will also feature an online auction for the Empty Chair, where the highest bidder for each meeting will be seated at the head table next to the guest speaker. Donated prizes will also be given away at the end of each meeting, including tickets to upcoming UCLA and USC home games.

Members pay $28 for lunch during the meeting, and non-members pay $33.
