The Pasadena Rotary Club presents “Six Weddings & A Dress” with Ryujin Taiko presented by Wendy Fujihara Anderson, on Wednesday, September 26, 12:00 noon at the University Club of Pasadena.
This is an amazing true story about a wedding dress made in the Manzanar Internment Camp for bride Chiyomi Ogawa, while she was held captive during WWII. After being released, Chiyomi’s passed her dress along to grace the weddings of five other Japanese American brides who had relocated to Pasadena to rebuild their lives. Pasadena native and resident, Wendy Fujihara Anderson shares this incredible story about her aunt’s dress, providing a glimpse into her family’s history that is rooted in Pasadena. Robie & Steve La of Ryujin, will accompany her presentation with the drama of taiko drumming delicately interwoven into the story as a musical enhancement. A short film by Steve Nagano that features an interview with Chiyomi will be screened.
Six Weddings & A Dress is part of the “Camp Stories” series that was produced by the Cherry Blossom Festival SoCal held in Pasadena from 2002-2006 and Los Angeles from 2007-2011. During those first five years, 500 Pink Cloud Cherry Trees were donated to the City of Pasadena.
